up and down
Who did not know it, the “Hoppelbahn” near Vienna. The elevated road Inzersdorf is located between the Hansson curve and the southern motorway and was built in the early 1970s. At that time it was designed for around 45,000 vehicles per day, but today more than 100,000 cars travel along this section of the A23 every day. A renovation was unavoidable.
Demolition, not a break
Eight years were spent working on “one of the largest and most complex refurbishments of recent years”, reports Andreas Fromm, Managing Director of ASFINAG Bau. All bridge structures in the above mentioned sections were completely removed and completely rebuilt.
The whole thing, of course, while maintaining traffic. Logistically, statically and in terms of construction, this is quite a challenge. A total of 11 bridge structures as well as various ancillary facilities of the 2 km long section were worked on. Thomas Lorenz alone spent 12,000 hours on this project. Well then, have a good trip!
