What counts are the people
The employee is in the foreground, not only at Thomas Lorenz, but also at Erste Group. They should enjoy going to the office and feel comfortable at work. The new headquarters, located on the site of the former Vienna Südbahnhof railway station, has certainly achieved this.
Simply exciting
The façade has a 2-shell structure. The space in between is walkable and offers employees space for breaks and relaxation. For the first time, an unusual building material was used for the inner shell – namely wood instead of aluminium.
The garden ceilings erected between the building sections span the basement levels almost without supports. For this purpose, we calculated massive underpinning girders made of steel, which were tensioned downwards to anticipate large deformations in the as-built condition.
