Much sought-after sight
Built in the 60s and completely renovated before the song contest, the funicular railway in the Azerbaijani capital Baku stands there. The 432 m long track is located directly on the coast of Baku and connects the boulevard with the hill on which the “Flame Towers” were built. Not far from the valley station is the “National Flag Square”, the 3rd highest flagpole in the world.
Know-how from Graz
The top and bottom stations are spanned by a steel and glass shell with all-steel nodes. The Rhino-3D software was used to find the optimal geometry, and the Grashopper add-on was used to parameterize boundary conditions, thus creating the basis for 3D statics and planning. In addition to the development of the static system and the calculation of the steel-glass constructions, the complete steel structure planning was also part of our scope of services.
