In 2010, Siemens VAI Metals Technologies, Linz, were commissioned with the planning of a new hot rolling mill for Allegheny Technologies Incorporated (ATI) in Brackenridge Pennsylvania, United States of America.
The mill was designed to produce products made from premium steel, types of fine-grain steels, Titanium and Titanium alloys, and to supply the growing steel demand in the building industry. The mill was built on a gross area of approximately 72,000 m² and required approximately 140,000 m³ concrete. In the course of the tender process, the consortium consisting of Thomas Lorenz ZT GmbH, Lorenz-Consult ZT GmbH and Eisner ZT GmbH were awarded the responsibilities for the structural engineering of the concrete construction. The planning was done in 3D.
