“Red Square Construction“ formally opened
The media described the opening of the “Red Square”, the newly constructed central clinic in Kiel, as a historic milestone, and Thomas Lorenz ZT GmbH loudly and intensively celebrated this event.
And there is a reason for it – for the UKSH, which is the largest university medical center in northern Germany, Thomas Lorenz ZT GmbH made 750 structural engineering plans and 11,000 pages of static calculations. Both activities were carried out on the basis of a 3D-Revit model. The six-storey building comprises of 72,000 square meters of floor area – the equivalent of approximately 10 soccer fields. In 2015, the UKSH commenced the centralization of the two locations in Kiel and Lübeck in a public-private partnership with the property development partner BAM/VAMED. All the extensions and reconstructions were carried out in parallel to full clinic operations.
By 2022, the existing buildings will be renovated and reconstructed. The total investment costs of the already opened construction section amount to EUR 321 M.
