Megaproject reconstruction Jauntal bridge

The Jauntal Bridge, popular with bungee jumpers, is 430 meters long and 96 meters high, making it one of the highest railroad bridges in Europe. Extensive construction measures are now pending.
The bridge, built in 1964, consists of reinforced concrete piers and a steel structure. The piers and foundation will be strengthened, and the supporting structure will be completely redone. The old supporting structure will be coupled with the new supporting structure preassembled in Ruden and pushed out and in with hydraulic presses in the direction of Bleiburg. After all, the old steel structure weighs 1,900 tons. This is disassembled and transported away by rail. A new sidewalk and bike path will also be constructed. The project is considered one of the last pieces of the ÖBB Coralmbahn line puzzle. Preparatory measures are currently taking place, and work on the supporting structure is scheduled to start at the end of the year. As early as next year, trains are expected to travel over the rail bridge again at speeds of up to 250 km/h. Thomas Lorenz and his team are working on various construction support measures for Swietelsky AG on this project. To date, for example, parts of the pier head frame and a cable bridge have been calculated and foundations for the assembly site have been planned. Attached are a few impressive pictures of the mega structure, you can find an impressive video about the construction here: #ÖBBbauenauf construction start conversion work Jauntalbrücke – YouTube And here’s the webcam: Webcam Jauntal 01 – ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG (oebb.at)
