Kapfenberg proud of the new train station
With the barrier-free and completely renovated station in Kapfenberg, the ÖBB created an important focal point of the new southern line.
Together with the state of Styria and the municipality of Kapfenberg, around 30 million euros were invested. Thomas Lorenz’s team was responsible for the structural planning of the platform roofs, the two access buildings and the technical building. There were some exciting constructions to be worked on: The south access is now roofed over by a steel and glass construction with curved panes over 10 m high. The entrance to the north is now adorned with a “concrete eye”.
