Axel Springer Campus Façade in Berlin
Axel Springer Publishing House is planning the realisation of a new Campus in Berlin. While the structural work is already in full swing, the façade is still busily being adjusted and fine-tuned.
The contract for the spectacular folded steel-glass façade was awarded to GIG from Attnang Puchheim. The façade static calculations will be driven by Thomas Lorenz ZT GmbH. The general management of the project will be performed by Züblin.
The area of the façade covers around 3,000 m² with the longest span being up to 35m long. For the glass construction, approximately 200 tonnes of steel profile will be required. The start of the assembly phase is planned for November 2018, with the final completion and start of operation being towards the end of 2019. A real-scale ”performance mock-up“ of the façade successfully passed a number of tests at GIG in Attenang Puchheim including tests for impermeability and driving rain. The life-sized model was also used for sampling purposes in the previous week.
