voestalpine open space
The province of Upper Austria (Land Oberösterreich) decided the 4th extension of the ‘Höhenrausch‘, also known as the path high above the rooftops of Linz, for the year 2014. ‘Floating‘ 25 meters over the ground, the open space structure is 42 meters long, 15 meters wide, and 9 meters high and offers space for approximately 300 people. The construction itself stretches from the roof of the OÖ Kulturquartier towards the Offene Kulturhaus. Next to a summer cinema area, an additional open space consisting of approximately 340 m² for various events will be provided, e.g. for ice stock sport in winter. voestalpine is not only and simply the exclusive main project sponsor; voestalpine products also lend the voestalpine open space its structure and form. voestalpine Krems Finaltechnik GmbH errects the open steel structure of the voestalpine open space using systems that are normally applied in high-bay warehousing projects worldwide.
The architectural design is the work of Riepl Riepl Architects. Thomas Lorenz ZT GmbH was commissioned with the structural detailed calculations and the complete works planning of the steel supporting structure. The complete steel construction was modelled in detail with a special 3D programme. Based on this 3D-model, all the 300 works and assembly layouts were derived. The planning period took more than 2,000 working hours by the Thomas Lorenz ZT team.
The voestalpine open space will make its artistic opening on June 27th 2014 with the start of the ‘Höhenrausch‘ exhibition. The voestalpine open space will be an experimental space for art and culture for the next five years.
