Ground Breaking Ceremony for New Med Campus Graz

(9/17/2013) The official ground breaking ceremony for „Modul1“ of the Med Campus Graz was held yesterday (16.09.2013). To mark the occasion, a larger-than-life spade was symbolically placed directly on the construction area. By 2017, the six buildings for the new University Campus will be built on the 4.3 ha grounds on the east and west sides of Stiftingtalstrasse in the east of Graz.

Following the designs of Riegler-Riewe Architects, Modul 1 consists of six inter-lapping buildings covering approximately 40,000 m². After this is completed, construction work for Modul 2, which will join Modul 1 via a bridge over Stiftingtalstrasse, will begin.

Preparations for the project have already begun in the end of June. „We have secured the excavation pit with foundation piles and sheet pile walls so we can get started with the excavation for the cellar and underground car park. For this, we are going to move about 100,000 m³ of earth,“ Manfred Grangl, Project Leader for site supervision said. In the beginning of November, the construction of the building will start.

Progress of the construction can be followed via this webcam.
